Timing Is Everything When Planning Your Space
The Secret to Enjoying Your Dream Outdoor Space Next Summer? Start Planning Now.
(Yep—fall and winter are where the magic begins.)
That first warm, sunny day in spring after a long Chicago winter? It hits just right. Suddenly everyone’s outside, soaking up the sun, admiring the tulips, and dreaming of rooftop hangs and backyard upgrades.
We get it—we feel it too. It’s also the time when new inquiries surge and demand for our services skyrocket! But after 15+ years of designing personalized outdoor spaces, here’s what we know for sure:
If you’re waiting until spring to start planning, you’re already behind.
At Rooftopia, every project we design is custom, intentional, and inspired by you. No templates. No rush jobs. Just thoughtful, creative outdoor transformations tailored to your lifestyle and space. Depending on the complexity, a full project can take anywhere from 3 months to over a year to bring to life.
By March or April, we’re already well underway with new builds for clients who started the process last year—and our calendar is often booked solid through summer.
Why Planning Ahead Makes All the Difference
1. Early Planning Secures Preferred Timing
Our schedule fills up fast—often with a 6-month lead time for larger construction projects. We intentionally pace our workflow to ensure exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and client care. Seasonal plants and materials are ordered months in advance to maintain consistency and excellence. When you plan ahead, you not only secure a prime spot on our schedule, but you also set the stage for the best possible results.
2. Fall Planning = Summer Enjoyment
If you want to relax or entertain outside by Memorial Day, the time to start is now. Fall and winter give us time to collaborate on ideas, fine-tune the details, and even begin pre-fabrication in our shop—so we’re ready to break ground as soon as spring weather cooperates.
3. Price Lock = Budget Smarts
Material costs often rise early in the year. When we start planning in the fall, we can lock in pricing before the spring market rush, avoid longer lead times for premium furniture, appliances, and cabinetry, and keep surprises (and stress) to a minimum. Our transparent budgeting also helps you avoid costly change orders during construction.
4. Exclusive Time & Attention
Fall and winter aren’t just quieter for construction—they’re our best seasons for deep collaboration. Starting now gives you full access to our team’s attention and creativity, without the time pressures of peak season.
